FAQs & Cleanse Support

What if I get really hungry during the cleanse?

This is totally natural, you will be consuming less calories during the cleanse than your body is used to. You may, at times, experience hunger. If this happens, don’t worry! It is only a sensation - not a dangerous thing - and it will pass. Think about the healing that your body is going through at this time. Think about all the benefits of the cleanse. You are doing your body a kind favor and it will thank you. You are developing a strong will-power. This is a challenge for the body and mind, revel in the feeling of power.

Drink a large glass of water, herbal tea or take a walk. The feeling will pass.

Repeat a mantra: Inhale ‘satisfaction’ exhale ‘letting go.’

How will I feel during the cleanse?

We are all different so this is difficult to predict accurately. Everybody experiences a cleanse uniquely. During the cleanse it is likely that you will go though many feelings, some wonderful and others that can be challenging. The only thing for certain is how you will feel at the end: Alive, awake...energized and completely rejuvenated.

When the body starts to clear and release the toxins from the blood, joints and various organ systems, these toxins must go though the body in order to be eliminated. Many toxins are stored in our fat cells, so as our body converts the fat cells into energy, these toxins will also need be released. The normal reaction to this is temporary grogginess, heaviness and fatigue. These are known as detox symptoms. These are totally normal. It means you are getting better. We also may experience withdrawal symptoms from certain types of food that our body is used to having. This is why the preparation is so essential before we begin. Easing into the cleanse more gently. During the longer cleanses – 3 to 7 days, people experience the detox symptoms during the first few days. You will know when the toxins have been flushed because you will begin to feel elated, energized and refreshed. If you are still feeling groggy after one or two days it is because the toxins are still being released.

What if I have led a very unhealthy lifestyle for a while?

Then it is more important than ever that you start the cleansing process. If you have never done a cleanse before and you have spent many years living a unhealthy lifestyle, it is important to start with one of the basic, more gentle cleanses. We would recommend that you try to clean up your eating habits for at least a few weeks before you cleanse otherwise it may be too much of a shock to your body. Chances are that you will have a huge build up of toxins and they will flood the body, causing many detox symptoms. The more gentle cleanses will ease you in more gently.

Fasting as a spiritual practice

Fasting has been used for centuries as a spiritual practice, a time to connect to a higher energy. A great time for meditation and reflection. Some people report a feeling of heightened sense of awareness and sensitivity, a feeling of openness and peacefulness. A lightness in the body and an increase in energy. The mind becoming clear, allowing for a slightly altered perception on life. The will power it takes to abstain from food is a spiritual practice in itself. It builds our confidence as we feel we are taking control. Increasing our power. Giving us a new perspective on food.

Will I lose weight?

It is very likely that you will loose weight during the cleanse. Each cleanse will give you more nutrition than you are probably used to on a daily basis, at the same time, with a reduced calorie intake. The longer you do the cleanse, the more weight you are likely to loose. The most important thing, is that you use the cleanse as a step towards more balance in your life and healthier eating practices on a long term basis. It is not a ‘quick fix’ after a week of eating badly. We do not encourage this as a ‘yo-yo’ type dieting practice. We encourage balance. Toxins are stored in the fat cells, so it is important that you try to maintain a healthy weight, however the cleansing process is far more than just a way to loose weight.

What should I expect?

This is impossible to answer. Anything can happen! It is different for everybody. Try not to fixate too much on what will happen. Worrying about it will not help the process. Try to be present. Focus on the preparation and let nature take its course. The mind plays an incredibly powerful role on our experience of life. You are about to embark on a healing journey. Know, and trust that you are exactly where you need to be and that all feelings and emotions are tools from which we can learn and grow. Let it happen. Surrender to the unknown.

Can I eat during the cleanse?

It is really important to listen to your body and become more connected with it’s needs and feelings. Fasting is a wonderful time to do this. It is also important to distinguish between food cravings and a real need for food. If you are feeling hungry, slow down for a minute, close your eyes and feel. Ask yourself, do I really need food or can I get through this feeling of hunger? Drink some water or a herbal tea and see if that helps. If you need food then it is absolutely okay to eat. Don’t feel guilty for it. During a cleanse, stick to raw fruit and vegetables only. Preferably fruits with a low GI. Good snacks are raw green leaves tossed in apple cider vinegar, chopped vegetable sticks, Or perhaps some avocado with a sprinkle of lemon juice and paprika. If you have never done a cleanse before then perhaps start with our ‘starter detox’ this is juice and raw food, to help you ease in slowly.
